Believe in the Lord Jesus. . .
. . . and you will be saved.
Ok, that sounds simple, but maybe it needs a little explanation!
Exactly what does it mean to “believe”? Good question. It means that you put your trust in Jesus Christ to save you from your sins just the way that you put your trust in a doctor to get you through a surgery, or a pilot to get you to a destination. Either way, you are trusting everything to someone else – it isn’t just the mental agreement that the doctor is capable of performing a surgery or that the pilot is capable of flying, but it’s actually taking the step of entrusting yourself to Him.
And the result? Yes, the Lord Jesus will see you through – he’ll be your attorney in the court of heaven. That means that any sin brought against you won’t stick – He has already paid the price by his death in your place. His death on the cross wasn’t an ordinary death – it was the death of the Son of God when God the Father punished the Lord Jesus for the sin of the world. Only God Himself could pay that price, and pay it He did.
So the question is, will you? That is, will you trust the Lord Jesus with the salvation of your eternal soul? A human doctor or pilot might fail you, but He never will. There’s a cost to be counted for following Him, for giving your life over to Him, but it’s nothing compared to the alternative of standing in the court of heaven alone! The Lord Jesus put it this way in the Bible in Matthew 11:28 – 30,
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (NASB)
